Jewellery photographed by someone who knows what he is looking at
Stones behave badly on camera. Getting the colour, the cut and the life of a piece to read on screen takes a gemologist as much as it takes a camera, and I do both parts myself.
What I shoot
Stills
Jewellery and product photography for auction catalogues, dealer stock, websites and insurance records. Single pieces or full collections.
Video
For social media, listings and sale previews, shot so that a stone moves the way it does in the hand.
Editing and retouching
Including work shot by someone else. Colour is corrected to the piece in front of me, not to whatever looks loudest on a screen.
On location
Selling exhibitions, fairs and events, shot while the work is going on and nobody is posing.
Day rates
A day shooting stock on white is not the same as a day with a model, an assistant and a location, so larger productions are quoted. Travel outside Dublin is charged at cost. Tell me roughly how many pieces you have and I will tell you how many days it will take.
Selected work
Worn
Jewellery is made for a body. Photographing it on one is a different job from photographing it on a bench.
On white
Catalogue and e-commerce work. Clean, consistent, and ready to drop straight into a listing.
Silver and hallmarks
Marks are small, worn and usually in an awkward place. Photographing them properly is its own discipline.
On location
Selling exhibitions, fairs and events, shot while the work is going on.
